    MOMO Pedal Mod
For the slightly more simracing addicted people I have created a page showing the modification I made to my Logitech MOMO steering wheel and pedals. See here: http://visualisation.tudelft.nl/~paul/momod

Example usage: I seem to have misplaced my diffeomorphism.

    Update, schmupdate
Well, well, well. Apparently, of all my imaginary friends, only Elvis found the courage to point out to me that the number of updates to this journal is a very small non-negative integer. Of course, the only reason I am writing this is to bitch about my dead IBM harddrive that crapped out in the middle of a gaming session (taking all my non-backed-up MAME roms with it).

    Done...
The compilation frenzy is over. After days and days and days and a week of compilation I now have VTK4, ITK and python.

Actually, python is not too bad (when used as a scripting language to drive VTK). Of course, the required indentation is PURE EVIL.

    ./configure ; make ; sleep inf
Wanted to try out ITK. However, need to have latest VTK to do so. In order to compile VTK need recent c++ compiler. So, the poor Octane is doing its best to compile all the necessary stuff. GCC3 is the Slowest Compiler Known To Mankind (tm). It takes more than 7 hours (and counting) to compile VTK! Ah well, knowing my judgement this is all done for nothing...

    Boring soldering stuff
In a serious attack of electrical engineering I added a pot to the brake pot on my pedal set. Also added rubber stop to the pedal to simulate braking resistance. With the pot the braking point of the pedals can be finely tuned to match that of the cars in GPL. And the amazing part is: it works! Did a couple of training laps on Silverstone and dropped my PB from 1:31:xx to 1:30:02.

    Current GPLRanking is 39.09.

    Big Update
Oh boy, where to start? Finished the paper for the MICCAI. Hopefully, it will be accepted so that a visit to Tokyo can be planned.

Just returned to the Netherlands from the SPIE conference in San Diego. Another fine encounter with the American Way Of Life. Yes people, it is god's own country, with the people to match. A country that advertises a car with the salespitch that it is so big you can fit another car in the back is truly sick. Oh well, it is probably just statistics, with so many people the amount of morons has to be higher.

    Before I forget
Also visited Koerperwelten in Bruxelles. Nice city, good food and beer.

Amazed at the surrealistic stuff Bosch produced in the 1500s. Really well worth the visit.

    Ringdingdingbadabingbingbing bwoaaaaaah!
Yes, with titanic effort replaced the steering pot of my wheel *again*. Thanks to Jochem, the electronics mastermind, the correct pot found its way to my home.

The experience is now complete. Did a couple of laps in the Eagle on Zandvoort. Excellent.

    Flabbergasted
I just received word that a brand spanking new ADSL modem was delivered to my house. I am speechless.

    A short timeline:
    27th: modem broke
    28th: called Mxstream
    29th: shipped my modem
    30th: received new modem

This has to be a KPN/Mxstream record. After all the horror stories I read on xs4all.adsl I certainly did not expect this.

Therefore, a well deserved thank you to KPN.

    ADSL Update
Up until now everything is going amazingly smooth. I have been contacted by Mxstream and have been given the shipping information.

    Fingers crossed.

    He's dead Jim
My ADSL modem has called it quits. No more. Nothing. Nada. It is dead as we know it.

Anyhow, after all the bad press I was surprised by the professional and fast help from Mxstream - in short, they will replayce my modem. However, before I can send the modem I need a number. If all goes well somebody will contact me, give me the number, I ship the modem, and they will ship a modem as soon as they received my modem.

We will see how everything goes.

    RTCW and linux
Excellent. RTCW just looks plain better on my system under linux. Smooth with everything on (800x600). Hat off to the makers of the game. Now the one thing I need is Grand Prix Legends under linux and I have no reason whatsoever to ever run that horrid excuse for a cripple goat operating system again.

Say hi to my SPIE article if you see it.

    Athlon bug and linux
Hmm. Since I appended "mem=nopentium" to the kernel boot options RTCW does not crash every two minutes anymore....which is good....and bad.

Do not try this at home
Last night I accidentally inhaled a small piece of toothpaste into my windpipe. Sufficient to say that it is not a recommended experience.
